This watercolor was sent by David Horvitz to Galerie Jean-Kenta Gauthier as part of the Avenues All Lined With Trees exhibition, held at JKG Vaugirard from September 7 to October 19, 2024 as part of the Avant-Gardens cycle.
Throughout the exhibition, David Horvitz will be mailing the gallery a series of watercolours in various formats. These colourful, abstract compositions on paper were created in 7th Avenue Garden, the artist's personal garden in Los Angeles, adjacent to his studio, using water from the hose, plants and stones. While it is impossible to displace a garden into a gallery, these mailed artworks received over time remind us that the artist's garden lives on, 9,000 km away, during the exhibition. This cartography shows what separates us and what unites us, a recurring motif in David Horvitz's work.
