Capucine Gros
Born in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1989, and of French nationality, Capucine Gros lives and works in Bucharest, Romania.
For the past two decades, Capucine Gros has developed a resolutely conceptual practice in which each project determines its own temporality, form, materials and modes of production. Threaded through by the motif of the map, her work reveals an affinity for data, transcription and their interpretations. Drawing on artisanal techniques and unfolding over extended durations, it takes the form of sculpture, works on paper, installations, performances — individual or participatory — as well as artists’ books. Her attention to the politics of maps resonates with the politics of images that inform the work of Alfredo Jaar, whose studio in New York she directed for many years.
A graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia (USA), Capucine Gros has presented her work in solo and group exhibitions, as well as through public-space interventions, in the United States, China, Zimbabwe and across Europe.
Capucine Gros is also co-founder and artistic director of UNFINISHED, a think tank and festival organised annually in Bucharest.
