Seeing is Believing

Mishka Henner's exhibition fully aligns with the mission of Fondazione Ago — Modena Fabbriche Culturali, which takes on the task of interrogating the present through the languages of culture, fostering dialogue between heritage, research, and contemporary artistic practices. In a historical moment in which the image has become the primary device through which reality is mediated, Henner?s work calls for a critical suspension of the gaze, prompting reflection on the relationship between vision, belief, and the construction of meaning.

Operating within a hybrid territory where photography, artificial intelligence, and the collective imagination intersect, his works do not claim a status of truth; rather, they expose the cultural, symbolic, and perceptual assumptions that underpin it. Relic, icon, and light are reactivated as operative categories through which to question our contemporary need for authenticity, proof, and visual trust, within a context marked by the crisis of evidence and the proliferation of competing regimes of truth.

In this sense, Seeing is Believing does not present itself as a statement, but as an open and problematic question: what does it mean today to believe in what we see, when the image is no longer bound to a stable referent? And what cultural responsibilities accompany the production and circulation of images within a pervasive technological ecosystem?

In welcoming this exhibition, Fondazione Ago reaffirms the role of cultural institutions as spaces for critical inquiry and collective awareness—places in which art operates not as a definitive answer, but as a tool of knowledge, capable of restoring complexity to our relationship with the visible and with the present moment.
